Former refugee, aged 17, begins University

Khder is 17 and has been in Australia for less than 2 years, but his ability to learn English is such a short time is really amazing! Khder volunteers at You Belong as an interpreter and is always an enthusiastic part of our team, with a great sense of humor.

A few months ago, Khder boldly took the opportunity to try something new and sky dived in our ‘Dive to Thrive’ event to raise funds and awareness for refugees in Australia. Watch the video of Khder and the Dive to Thrive team taking the leap over the GoldCoast.

Since then Khder has graduated school and been accepted into Tertiary Preparation Pathways (TPP) at University! He’s one of the first Yezidi people in Toowoomba to begin Australian University.

We have no doubt that Khder will eagerly embrace the opportunities that life will bring as he continues his studies.

We are really proud of Khder's efforts and determination to lead the way for more Yezidi people to aim high in pursuit of their studies and career dreams.
